We’re back! This year, the ELT conference at International House Barcelona (http://www.ihes.com/bcn/tt/conference.html) has been particularly inspiring.
It was encouraging to hear from Nayr Ibrahim about how multilingualism is increasingly present in this day and age, and it felt a bit nostalgic to hear Scott Thornbury recalling Communicative Language Teaching in its heyday: I consider CLT my nursery in ELT, and its ageing, to say the least, is a bit like cutting the umbilical cord. Well, time to move on to a way of teaching English where the relationship between teachers and learners as human beings is the ground where learning flourishes (something that emerged from from Sarah Mercer’s talk), and where we ask to throw Flubber blobs at multiple options on the board rather than asking to tick or cross (Chris Roland’s Workshop).
This trip has been an excellent opportunity for both of us to connect and refresh our views on ELT, and we hope you will find interesting stimuli and useful ideas in our upcoming posts and activities. Watch this space and check out the picture gallery!
